Ecard and Co-Insurance

Austrian health insurance enrollment for employees and families
Book a Consultation

The eCard is Austria’s health insurance card, providing access to the public healthcare system. Employees working in Austria are automatically enrolled in public health insurance through their employer, and family members can be co-insured under the employee’s plan for comprehensive healthcare coverage.

This service provides:
  • eCard enrollment support for new employees
  • Co-insurance registration for spouses and children
  • Coordination with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK)
  • Guidance on healthcare access and coverage

Co-insurance for family members

Who Can Be Co-Insured
Spouses, registered partners, children (legitimate, illegitimate, adopted, or raised by single parents), stepchildren, and grandchildren living in the same household can be co-insured under an employee’s health insurance plan, provided they are Austrian residents and not subject to compulsory health insurance themselves.

Co-Insurance for Children
Children under 18 are co-insured at no additional cost. Children aged 18 to 27 (or 29 if unemployed) can remain co-insured free of charge if they are attending school, vocational training, or university.

Co-Insurance for Spouses
Spouses can be co-insured under the employee’s plan. If the spouse is raising children in the same household, co-insurance is typically free. If the spouse has no children, an additional contribution of 3.4% of the employee’s gross monthly salary is required.

Coverage
Co-insured family members receive the same healthcare benefits as the primary insured employee, including access to contract doctors, hospitals, prescriptions, and medical treatments at no additional cost beyond the co-insurance contribution.
