Eu Residence Declaration – Anmeldebescheinigung
EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens staying in Austria for more than three months must obtain a registration certificate (Anmeldebescheinigung) from the immigration authority. This document confirms your right of residence under EU freedom of movement and is required in addition to your Meldezettel (address registration).
Who must apply
EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens staying in Austria longer than 3 months
Deadline: Within 4 months of arrival in Austria
Penalty for non-compliance: Fines up to €250
Requirements
You must demonstrate one of the following:
Employed persons: Employment contract or employer confirmation
Self-employed persons: Business registration or self-employment documentation
Students: University enrollment confirmation, health insurance, and sufficient financial means (scholarship, parental support, bank statements)
Financially independent persons: Health insurance and sufficient financial means to support yourself
De-registration requirement
When leaving Austria permanently, you must de-register (Abmeldung) your Anmeldebescheinigung at the same immigration authority where you registered.
