Artists & Performers – Short-Term Engagements
Foreign artists, performers, and entertainment professionals can work in Austria for up to 8 weeks as part of cultural productions without requiring a standard work permit. The engagement must be announced to the Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS), but no permit application is needed.
Who qualifies
- Concert or stage performers
- Artists (professional artists category)
- Film, radio, and television professionals
- Musicians
- Engagement as part of concert, event, performance, ongoing film production, radio broadcast, or live television broadcast
- Maximum duration: 8 weeks as part of overall artistic production
Work permit exception
No Work Permit Required:
Foreign nationals in these professional categories do not require a standard Austrian work permit for engagements up to 8 weeks. However, the concert, performance, film production, or TV production must be announced to the Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS).
Important: Despite the work permit exception, minimum remuneration requirements and remuneration-related document-keeping requirements may still apply.
Visa requirements
Visa Nationals:
If you are a “visa national” (citizen of a country requiring a Schengen visa), you must obtain a visa to enter Austria for your artistic engagement.
Visa-Free Nationals:
If you are a “visa-free national” (citizen of a country with visa-free Schengen access), you do not require a visa to enter Austria if your Schengen visa-free days have not been consumed (90 days in any period of 180 days).
